ALEXANDER McQUEEN

The brand was founded by Lee Alexander McQueen in 1992. Lee was born in 1969, London, England. After graduating from secondary school, he became an assistant to a tailor at Savile Row, starting his career in fashion. After gaining some experience, in 1991 he graduated from MA at Central Saint Martins. His graduate collection lead him to show at London Fashion Week. The brand rapidly developed into an internationally recognised name, also exhibiting at Paris and Milan (Men). His legendary collections gained popularity for being extremely shocking and imaginative, but also keeping the high quality tailoring skills he earned at Savile Row. He is often described as the key person representing British fashion, even though his style is very unique. In 2001 the brand joined Kering group, and after Lee’s death in 2010 Sarah Burton, who had worked under Lee as a head of womenswear was assigned creative director.
