history of VALENTINO



Valentino was founded in 1960 in Rome, Italy by Valentino Garavani and his business partner Giancarlo Giammetti. Valentino was born in Voghera, Italy on 1932. He studied fashion design in Milan on 1949, at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. After graduation, he had multiple internships in various couturiers such as Guy Laroche, then founded his brand in Rome. In 1962 the first collection was shown at the Pitti Palace, Florence, then gaining high reviews in 1968 for his “White Collection”. The brand’s iconic red dress is known as “Valentino Red”, popular for it’s glamorous look. After Valentino’s retirement in 2008, Pierpaolo Piccioli is now the brand’s creative director.
